We didn't post pre-reunion so thought a post-reunion blog was in order. We had a great and memorable time in Utah. There were so many people! Richard enjoyed seeing his relatives that he hadn't seen in such a long time, and I was thrilled to finally put faces to all the people I've been hearing about for the past 14 years. I would like to apologize to any of you whose names I may have gotten wrong...sorry :/.

It's always nice to go on pleasure trips, but it's good to be back home in muggy Mississippi. Ms. Mary got off the plane just fine and is holed up in her house resting. Guess all the excitement, visiting, shopping and walking really pooped her out. She'll be back to her old self in a few more days though, and she had a blast so it was worth it. Our four-legged kiddies were happy to have us back home too. Particularly Taz, who has not let us out of his sight since we got back.

I'm going to try to upload a few pictures of the reunion here, and also a couple from home. Again it was awesome meeting/seeing all of you! I can't remember ever being in such a large group of good folks.

Leigh Anne Quarles and Family

I've been working for the Indian Health Service for the past 2 1/2 years down in Arizona on the Navajo Nation. I'm an RN on the Adolescent Care Unit at the Fort Defiance Hospital- the first (and only) inpatient youth behavioral health program in the IHS system. I came down here when the unit first opened. It's been kind of a big deal and we have a lot of detractors so we're scutinized closely. It's been a challenging experience but immensely rewarding in many respects. I'm taking online (and summer) classes to get my masters in nursing education through Saint Joseph's College in Standish, Maine. It's absolutely gorgeous down here on the high desert- we're at 7800 feet elevation so we don't get hot summers, and the winters are relatively mild exept that it gets very cold at night. Not the weather that you typically think of when you think of Arizona. The gentleman in the picture with me is my good friend Dana. We met when I came down here to work; he works at the same hospital as a pharmacist. He's from Delaware. We have the best time together discovery this mystical country.

All three of my boys live together in a house in Niwot, Colorado - a little, idyllic town just outside of Boulder. Christopher spends a lot of time in Montrose on the western slope of Colorado as he is part owner of a house down there with a good friend of his. His friend's family has a ranch and Christopher goes there for cattle driving and branding and riding horses and ATV's and just general ranch living/working. Nate graduated from the University of Colorado - Boulder last year with a double major in studio art and philosophy. Adam also graduated last year from the University of Colorado - Denver with a major in music. Their college majors reflect their attitutes toward conventional life....and work. Isn't life interesting?

Justin & Calista De Vries & Family

Justin - a.k.a Daddy; has just finished his 4th year at Novell, Inc. For those in the know that is quite an accomplishment. When not busy at Novell, he is in training as the next Lance Armstrong. (Well a wife can dream.)

Calista - a.k.a Mommy; is beginning her 6th year as super mom, well maybe not super mom. Her boys keep her busy (all three of them), but she still finds time to do a little sewing, and reading, among other things.

Dante (5) - a.k.a Big 'D'; is in training as a Jedi Knight, a Musketeer, or Robin Hood, depending on what weapon he gets to first. He can be persuaded to take time off for soccer or a movie, but only if the movie can be acted out. If only mommy had that much energy!

Bennett (3) - a.k.a Little Bit; is currently in training as Dante's Igor. He loves his big brother and is up for anything Dante can think of. He also thinks that mommy tastes like chicken.

Stacey Weigers and Family

We moved to LoDo (lower downtown Denver) to a Brownstone in May of 2006. Our place is just a couple of blocks from Coors Field and we have enjoyed the “city” life immensely. We love being able to walk just about anywhere. One of the girls’ favorite things to do is freak out the people standing in our doorway…one of them sits at the window and watches for people and the other stands at the intercom for the door…the one at the window tells the other what a person is wearing and the one at the intercom says, “You in the red shirt…step away from the green door…quickly and no one gets hurt!” People jump and look around and the girls just laugh and laugh…too funny! It’s been a lot of fun living here…come visit any time!


Stacey - I just completed my certification for teaching Yoga and am in the process of setting up my own practice. Right now I am doing a “Heart of Service” teaching yoga twice a week at the People House in Denver. I also do private yoga lessons. In addition to teaching yoga, I am also a certified herbalist and am thinking of ways I can incorporate my herbal knowledge with yoga. When I am not doing yoga I can be found riding my bike, playing tennis, yelling at the dog to stop trying to scratch her way into the TV, taxi-ing the kids here, there and everywhere, or hanging out with my boyfriend, John.

Hanna just finished the 8th grade and is an accomplished flutist—she was in the Honors recital; received a 1 (the highest) on her ensemble and solo pieces at the State Federation. She also placed 3rd in the Continental Math League competition. This spring she played soccer for the first time and was on the LAX team. In June she will join some of her 8th grade classmates for a 3-week trip to Russia! She is looking forward to high school and after much deliberation has decided to go to Middlesex School in Concord, Massachusetts. What an exciting adventure!

Lizzy just finished 6th grade. She plays the harp and is getting quite good. She is also a published writer…having won a nationwide poetry contest for young poets. Also, she was asked to submit two poems to the literary publication at her school, Colorado Academy…quite an honor. You can find her work in “A Celebration of Young Poets” and … Her favorite subject is Spanish and though she doesn’t love her teacher, she loves the language. This spring she participated in the Circus at school and was a featured artist on the Spanish Web. She also played LAX and is looking forward to playing lots of tennis this summer.

Hello from Rocky Mountain High!!
Shirley's blog has summed up my family, but here are some additional facts. We have resided in Fort Morgan for the past 15 years. We are thrilled to have both of the girls living 90 miles away in the Denver metro area. With Kana and Noel being close, we have been able to throughly enjoy our new grandson, Cole.
Unfortunately, we will not be able to make the trip to Utah for the family reunion. With or without me, the Quarles family horseshoe trophy will arrive on time. My only regret is that if it arrives without me, I will not be able to retain my title (Steve, make sure to have a backup partner on standby).

Hello from Las Vegas, where we've been for 18 years now...hard to believe!

Life is a lot of fun here, living with my sister Megan and my daughter Libby. I have my own business doing art and interiors. And when I'm not working, I guess I'm doing the same thing for fun! I inherited the creative streak from mama Sharon.

Benjamin is 23, living and working in Lake Tahoe at The Cedar Lodge Hotel. He enjoys snowboarding, hiking, and guitar and just climbed Half Dome in Yosemite! I think that's pretty cool.

Samantha, 21, is happily married to Tyler Leavitt. He is currently attending the Las Vegas Metro Academy preparing to be a police officer, and Samantha is in her 2nd year at the College of Southern Nevada where she is studying interior design. They are a great team, and since they live just 5 minutes away we get to see them all the time!

Libby, 17, will be a senior next year in high school where she is totally immersed in the theater program. She has been involved in every production since her freshman year and has the lead for the upcoming school play in the fall.

And Megan has been with us for 5 years after moving from Reno. She is celebrating her 30th birthday in style in Hawaii this week, and acts as moderator/auntie extraordinaire/comic relief for our family here.

My twin brother, Robert, and I were born 6 February 1934. I am the 5th child, and eldest son (by 5-minutes) , of John R. and Ethel M. Quarles.

I met Beverly Hulse in 1951; we were married in Raton, NM, 18 September 1955. From this marriage, we had four children: Randal Keith, 5 September 1957, San Francisco, CA; Leigh Anne, 6 April 1960, Greeley, CO; Stacy Lyn, 10 June 1969 and Robert William, 24 May 1971, both born in Ogden, UT.

After my discharge from the Navy in June 1958, we moved to Greeley where I enrolled at Colorado State College and worked as a Teller at The Greeley National Bank.

Our family experienced a great sorrow when Robert was struck by lightning and killed, 18 May 1959. He was living with us while attending College and working for a local farmer.

I graduated from Colorado State College, with a degree in Business Education, June 1961 along with my brother, Willie. We were the first in the family to graduate from College.

Following graduation, my family and I moved to Vallejo, CA and I worked for a brief time as a Management Intern at the Federal Reserve Bank in San Francisco, but the call to return to Colorado was strong and we moved to Denver, August 1961, and for the next two years I worked for a Stock Broker.

I had an opportunity to return to Las Animas in August 1963 when I was offered a job as the Distributive Education Teacher at Bent County High School (BCHS), the name had not yet changed.

Again, in the summer of 1964, another opportunity came my way when I was offered a job at Hill Air Force Base, UT, in their Management Intern Program. BCHS had elected not to renew my teaching contract. When one door closes another opens??.

Our young family moved to Roy, UT, September 1964 and I began my career at HAFB, starting as a Contract Negotiator in Procurement and retiring in June 1987 as the Deputy Chief of the Small Business Office. During this time, I did leave HAFB and worked at Thiokol (the Space Shuttle Booster Manufacturer) as a Contract Administrator, from January 1970 to January 1974.

After retirement from HAFB, I again went to work at Thiokol, now known as ATK, in November 1988, as their Small Business Administrator. I retired from ATK, June 1999.

I have been working at Triple Stop/Storage Star, a locally owned Convenience Store, Used Car Dealership and Storage Rental Business since November 2000 as their "Jack of All Trades". It was to be a part time job which quickly became a full time job....

In my younger years, I enjoyed playing baseball, softball, basketball and bowling; now I enjoy watching baseball, softball, basketball and bowling, on TV or at the games!! I also enjoy an ocassional game of horseshoes, almost specifically limited to Family Reunions. It is always fun to be with the children and grandchildren.

Beverly worked for the Government, starting as a Food Service Worker at the VA Hospital in Fort Lyon the year we lived in Las Animas; after moving to Utah she worked at HAFB, IRS, Defense Depot Ogden and back to HAFB where she retired from the Foreign Military Sales area in March 1993 as the Assistant Program Manager for the Countries of Korea and Spain (F-4 Program). In February 1996 she started working at Intermountain Health Care (IHC) as a Receptionist, later becoming a Scheduling Coordinator; she retired in August 2006 but stayed on call; her job really did remain "a part time job"....

Beverly enjoys spending time with her children and grandchildren, gardening, walking, reading, traveling and watching her beloved "Yankees".

Along with our four children we have eleven grandchildren and will let our kids tell about their lives and their children.

There was a wedding, 18 June 1925. And now, 83 years later, this wonderful family just keeps on growing.

Soon it will be the reunion; we look forward to seeing you and express our thanks and appreciation to all who make these wonderful events possible.

William Thomas married Shirley Jean Blazer in Raton, NM,May 25, l957. This union brought Philip Douglas, 12-30-57; Paul David, 2-09-59 passed away from Leukemia 12-21-63;Price Daniel, 12-07-62; Patti Diane, 5-18-65. Graduated from Colorado State Teacher's College, now UNC Greeley. Went to work at Ft. Lyon Veteran Administration Medical Center in 1960. Retired as Chief of PT/KT in 1990. Farmed with Dad Quarles on his share of family farm raising sweet corn, hay and melons. Shirley substituted and tutored in Las Animas school system until her retirement in 2002. She loves to do her yard work and gardening.

Phil married Cynthia Jean Miller, July 1977. Graduated from Emporia State College in Kansas with an accounting degree and started in the beef industry for IBP in 1977 as a cost accountant and is now the Slaughter Operation Mangager with Cargill in Ft. Morgan, CO. Cynthia has worked in the Ft. Morgan High School athletic director and counseling offices and still is. They raised Kana Jean, 8-28-88 and Kari Jo, 6-16-82 there. Kana graduated from CSU with an accounting degree, married Noel Evan Harryman in 2003. He is a landscape designing architect and Kana is the Financial Reporting Manager for a gas/oil leasing company. They have a son, Cole Jackson born April 24, 2008 and live in Commerce City, CO. Kari obtained her cosmetology degree and worked in that field various places and is now working at the same facility as Kana as a Land Technician. She is single and living in Thornton, CO. Phil is an avid outdoorsman playing sports, fishing, horseshoes etc.


Price attended the DeVry Education System in Kansas City, MO and obtained a BS in Electronic Engineering Technology in 1984. Went to work for KLA in San Jose, CA. Married Cynthia Anne Cochran in Oregon in 1986. Worked for a year in Canada and then transferred to Albuquerque, NM as field Service engineer for KLA. They raised Chancy Ford, born 3-10-89 and Pryor William 6-20-91 there. Cindi has had her fingers in several cottage industries, clowning and is now a Passion Parties International Consultant. Chancy is attending CNM in Albuquerque and Pryor will be a senior in high school. Price plays banjo in a bluegrass band as his hobby.

Patti married Robert Allen Slack in 1984. He was in house construction at that time and later became a horse trainer. He and Patti and son Jared Charles 7-09-85 and daughter, Amber Nicole, 1-25-88 began traveling the racehorse circuit, training and racing horses. Patti separated from Bobby 3 years ago and is living in OK City working at the racetrack there. Jared is following in Dad's shoes, traveling all over being a jockey and handler. Amber and her significant other, Ryan Allen Stivers are into raising and training horses also in the Nebraska area. Amber gave birth to a son, Blake Allen June 6, 20-08.

Clint & Rachel De Vries Malvitz & Family

Rachel and Clint were married 19 April 2008.

Clint works as a heavy equipment operator for a local coal mine. He is an avid outdoors man. After remodeling most of their home, he is ready for a well deserved vacation from his duties as general contractor.

Rachel is working for Wal Mart as a cashier, customer service representative, customer service supervisor... She would run the entire store if she were asked. :)

McKenzie (5) is very computer savvy. She visits all the sites mentioned in her favorite television programs. She is very excited about starting kindergarten this fall. Her best friend is ma maw's bantam chicken, who eats out of her hand.

Tristan (3) wants to be a conductor for the railroad. The movie "The Polar Express" is the source of his love of trains. He has quite a collection of Thomas the train die casts. If working for the railroad does not pan out, studying insects under "high magnification" would be his second career choice.

Chuck & Trudy De Vries

Chuck continues to work for International Coal Group, at Bridger Coal near Rock Springs, WY, as a supervisor over the high-wall miner. His ten days at home are busy with "honey do's", rebuilding antique Ford tractors, and the family farm. He travels to Olathe, CO, each month to visit his Dad who is 86 years old. He is looking forward to retiring in a "few" years!!

My life is busy enjoying grand-children and working part-time. I have worked for American Greeting as a merchandiser for 22 years - - can you believe that!! Genealogy seems to be my addiction! I tried to cancel my subscription to Ancestry.com for the summer because I found myself up at 2AM searching for names and dates. That lasted about two weeks!! Last summer I traveled to the Family History Library in Salt Lake City to attend classes in researching families in Germany, Sweden, and Netherlands. I have been amazed at the information available from the Netherlands!!

Looking forward to seeing everyone the end of July!!

Randy Quarles and family

Randy is a managing director at The Carlyle Group, a private equity firm in Washington DC, where he's helping lead a group investing in financial institutions, especially providing capital to troubled banks. He is on the LDS Church's Public Affairs Committee, is a High Councilor for the Washington DC Stake, and in his spare time he's a pilot, skier, pundit, voracious reader of history and philosophy, and Cub Scout Den Leader.

Hope is the CEO, and co-owner with her siblings, of the Goldener Hirsch Inn, ranked by Conde Nast as one of the 100 best places to stay in the world and by Zagats as one of the two best small hotels in the United States. The restaurant at the hotel is perennially ranked as either the very best or among the top handful in the state of Utah. In her spare time she is a trustee of the University of Utah, an advisor to Governor Huntsman on higher education issues, and a mother of three active kids.

Young Randy (9) is an avid sportsman (basketball, tennis, skiing), budding paleontologist, absorbed reader (non-fiction only, please), and conscientious big brother to Spencer and Hope. He's entering Form C (the 4th grade) at St. Albans in Washington DC this fall, but his heart is at home in the West, where he spends holidays and summers swimming, playing tennis and horseback riding with his cousins.

Spencer (7) is our mechanical engineer, building ever more complex structures out of bags of Legos (this month, it's a 4 foot long scale model of the Imperial Flagship from Star Wars), our compassionate conservative (he recently initiated a long discussion on the best way to fund universal health care for pets), and our future NASCAR hero (having recently taken first place among the Tiger Cubs at the Pinewood Derby, and third place in the entire pack, after his brother took second place among the Wolf Cubs last year). This year he stretched himself by graduating from Dollar Mountain in Sun Valley and going skiing with his dad and brother on Baldy for the first time.

Hopie (just turned 4) is our future celebrity, as she likes to come downstairs to breakfast in the morning wearing her pink pajamas, long pink bathrobe, and pink sunglasses pushed back up on her head saying "Today I feel just like a movie star". She has her mother's energy and enthusiasm, her father's sense of humor, and her brothers' love of family. She starts pre-K in the fall at the Beauvoir School where her brother Spencer will show her the ropes just as his brother Randy showed him when Spencer arrived 3 years ago.

Fuzzy is a 7-month old Coton de Tulear from Madagascar, who is rapidly making progress in training us all to respond to his every command.

Steve spends his time in business, with the family, and with church and civic activities. He also enjoys playing tennis or racquetball.

Roxanne is busy with children and grandchildren and getting ready for rotator cuff surgery. She just returned from a great trip to Thailand with her brother and two sisters.

Robert and Tonya have lived in Phoenix for the last three years where he has been and F16 instructor. They have three children, Robbie, Bella, and Lana. They have just received a new assignment where he will be a T38 Instructor at Vance Air Force Base in Ok. He is working on his Masters Degree from Colorado State University.

David graduates on May 11^th 2008 from Willamette Law School in Salem Oregon. His wife Sara graduated from Utah State in Biology with a minor in Chemistry. David will be sitting for the Utah Bar Exam the end of this summer. Sara served a mission in Brazil. They have two children, Tanner and Brooklyn. They are moving back to Utah where Dave will put legal counsel and chief engineer for Synergy Companies.

Steven is an F16 Pilot and has served in Korea and recently returned from Iraq. His wife Deanna graduated from Weber State University May 2 in Public Communications. They are currently stationed in Hill Air Force Base in Utah so lucky us!

Tommy just graduated from BYU with a Masters in Accountancy. He is working with Synergy Companies and helping with the development of its Solar Energy Division.

Daniel is serving a mission in Southern Chili. He returns in July 2009.

Anne is the youngest and only girl. She is a senior in high school and graduates in 3 weeks. She will be attending the University of Utah where she will be playing on the women’s soccer team.

Tammy & Sabrina

Tammy- As of recently my mother is doing quite well and is the strongest person I know. Stubborn as always and is still everything our family has ever know her to be. Currently she has just started her twenty-second year at the Post Office and can't wait to retire, she is always counting down the years. She is but a few months from paying off her house and is excited to get that out of the way. She enjoys keeping me on my toes and I can honestly say I never know what she will do next. Her favorite pass time is reminding me of when I was young. She enjoys playing her game boy, watching TV and playing with all of our animals. We just had the irrigation done in backyard and the front yard is complete, mom especially loves this and enjoys pulling the weeds that spring up.

Sabrina- Summer is here for me and I am enjoying every minute of it, except for work. I started my second year and Landscape Enterprise Ltd in January and I'm not to sure how I did that. I am the only woman currently working at the company and I sometimes wonder how that many men actually work together. When I'm not working I'm always busy with friends or some sort of activity. I love Colorado, it offers all kind of fun. I enjoy snowboarding, hiking, playing pool and reading. I also spend a lot of time on the Internet connecting with friends that I don't get to see to often. I start the end of my second year of college this August and I should be done with all of my prerequisites. I'm hoping to get to Fort Collins by winter of '09, and I cant wait.

Well I think that covers everybody, can't wait to see you all in July!

Betty and Bill's & Cheryl's Family

Betty Wilbur - I am the second sibling of this great family. I have lived in Las Animas, CO most of my life. In 1946 I married Elvis Cunningham and to our union was born Trudy, Ellen, Ronda, Bill and Tammy. Elvis passed away in 1966 and seven years later I married William Wilbur. He had four children, Florine, Roger, Aileen and Rhonda. At present I live in Las Animas, CO. Bill is the only one close. I have no pets so if I want to go I can. I love music. I do hand work, quilting and go visiting and resting and fix missionary meals, and resting. I also do Indexing
for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.


William E. Cunningham III (Elvis) joined the Army May 30, 2008. He said that the first few weeks were of rough doing push ups, getting yelled at and the gas chamber. He said it is not so bad now. He has about 6 more weeks of Basic Training and then on to his new assignment. Before he went into the Army he lived in Greeley for 5 years going to school and working. Chris Cunningham lives in Las Animas and is working for the City fixing the swimming pool. He loves rock music and would love to play in a band. He was an avid scateboarder. He is a vegetarian.

Nicholas Cunningham started motorcycle mechanic school last November in Phoenix, AZ. He says it is really hot there at present. He is interested in motorcycles, movies, skatboarding, swimming and bowling. He is the one that broke his neck a couple of years back and is doing fine at present.

Bill and Cheryl Cunningham are doing fine. Bill, in addition to continuing employment with the state as a correctional officer is now a part-time farmer and bee keeper. He is very busy. He does find time every once in a while to go fishing though. Cheryl is doing well, busy with the kids and Bill. She likes to go fishing and hiking with Bill and Acacia when they can find the time.

Harley is spending the summer in Canon City working as a stocker at Kwik-Stop. He loves working and getting a paycheck. He is getting a raise in July and looking forward to that. He will be a sophomore in high school next year. He likes to ride his scooter and play Guitar Hero when he is not working.

Beci and Abe have been in Hobbs, NM for the pas three months. They are on their way to Globe, Arizona for a month or two and then to Wyoming for a couple of years. Abe is a welder for power plant construction. Beci is looking forward to seeing Nic in Arizona.

Acacia is in 4-H and is taking dog training, cake decorating and sewing. She will be in the 3rd grade next year. She is an avid reader and likes to keep busy all the time. She loves to go fishing and hiking. She also likes to give Bill as hard a time as he gives her.

Our New Home...Larry & Ellen Brown

Larry and I began a new adventure when we bought our "Colorado Cabin" in June of 2006. I traveled back and forth from California to Colorado every three weeks to keep an eye on things. As of January 2008 Larry began to work two weeks in Colorado and two weeks in California. We also became " Coloradoians" once again. He will continue traveling until he retires.....the end of September or November. I stopped my traveling when Larry began his two week schedule. On May 9th we sold our home in California, packed ourselves up and headed out.

I keep myself busy quilting, wood working, and helping with Maya and John (grandchildren). Larry no longer can run so he has taken up bicycling. We also enjoy going to NASCAR races. We are looking forward to exploring Colorado once again when Larry retires.

Hello All! For those of you who may be wondering who we are..We are the Son and Daughter in law of Pamela Kellerstrass..Thats us here, Michelle and John, and one of our 4 boys..Landen. (I could not for the life of me find a family picture, so sad huh?!)....
We currently are in Reno,NV living not far from Pamela and Jack which is WONDERFUL! John and I met in Pleasanton,CA where we were in the same ward. We have been married for almost 10 1/2 years now, and have 4 wonderful little boys. Jordan (8), Brenan (5), Landen (3) and Gaven (8 months). John is busy working for the family business, and Michelle is staying at home, raising these cute little guys. Jordan is in 3rd grade, and is very much into animal science, and video games. Brenan loves crafts and jumping on the trampoline. Landen (the red head), hes very much a 3 year old, and is very active, and loves tractors,motorcyles and monster trucks. (Cant get any more boy right??), And Gaven, our little caboose, he is so sweet and mellow. I think we have been blessed with such a quiet one! He sitting up, and loves to watch his big brothers. Easy entertainment thats for sure.

We hope to make it to the Reunion, we aren't 100% sure, as that will be the very first week of Kindergarten for Brenan, and 3rd grade for Jordan. We look forward to seeing all the new posts on the blog.. you can visit www.4bubbasfamily.blogspot.com to see our family blog as well.

We're gearing up for a great summer here in Denver. My oldest daughter Kijana, who lives with her mother in Salt Lake City, has joined us for the summer and we couldn't be happier! Dylan just graduated from Pre-K and is well on his way to a career in sales or politics. Little Maddie's vocabulary is just exploding and she's becoming such a bubbly little personality herself. I am so grateful that I have all of my children together under the same roof for a while. Now we just need an updated family photo. Hope everyone is doing well, we'll see you all soon.
